“AROHINI” is a programme for girls’ empowerment. This programme is based on the principle of understanding social and political conditions of one’s lives. This understanding is the key to transformation and empowerment. Study Hall Educational Foundation in partnership with UNICEF and Sarv Siksha Abhiyan conducted 6 months programme at KGBV schools of 3 districts (Sonebhadra, Jaunpur and Mirzapur).
The programme kick started with a capacity building training on ‘Gender Awareness in Schools using Critical Dialogues’. The Training was conducted at Hotel Vaibhav in Varanasi. The first two batches consisted of teachers from KGBV and the third batch was various local stakeholders like Lady Police and NGOs from Jaunpur, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra districts on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th & 25th February, 2012. The purpose of this training was twofold:
- To sensitise the teachers and increase their awareness of Gender Issues
- To introduce our programme to them and train them in the use of the materials and in the methodology of Critical Dialogues – so that they become proficient in conducting Critical Dialogues in the classroom.
The training was conducted by the SHEF team with Dr. Urvashi Sahni as the chief resource person, assisted by Dr. Kavita Upadhyay for the teacher training and Mrs. Shalini Mathur as the chief resource person for the Training of the Police personnel and NGO representatives.
