A session on gender, caste and democratic citizenship education at Vidyasthali

A workshop with the Vidyasthali staff members was conducted on gender, caste and democratic citizenship education. Nikhil Sahera, a Phd student at Delhi University interacted with the staff members and talked about gender and caste related issues. Nikhil explained how power has always played a crucial role in discrimination on the basis of gender and caste. He deconstructed patriarchy, gender and caste and talked about the solutions.

The Principal of Study Hall School, Ms Shalini Sinha, took a session on Democratic Citizenship Education (DCE). DCE is based on the pillars of equality, liberty and fraternity and teaches to be active advocates of a democracy. A classroom is a place where teachers can influence a social change. Ms Shalini Sinha said, “It is the responsibility of a teacher to teach and prepare children to become active citizens and play their part in the democracy.”
