Age at which child marriage was attempted: 14 years

Current Status: Pursuing MA from IGNOU and working as a teacher at Tree House School. She also works as manages a center for out of school children run by the Digital Study Hall. In total she is currently more than Rs 1,00,000 per annum.

Intervention approach: Police intervention and counseling of her mother was very important in getting her out of the child marriage predicament. The teachers also later got her a job through which she was able to support her family.

Summary: When her father passed away suddenly, Priya’s maternal uncle took over the family and said that she needs to get married. He even called a boy to arrange her marriage. Priya approached her teachers at Prerna Girls School who encouraged her to raise her voice against child marriage. When Priya stood firm in front of her Mama, he came to the school and had a argument with the teachers also. Eventually the teachers were successful in stopping the marriage.
